5 Signs Your Computer Needs a Repair

April 6, 20254 min readBy Vishal Patel

Most computer problems don't happen suddenly — they build up gradually, giving off warning signs that are easy to miss. Catching these early can be the difference between a simple $60 repair and a much costlier problem.

1. It Takes Forever to Start Up

If your computer used to boot in under a minute but now takes five or more, something is wrong. Common causes include a failing hard drive, too many startup programs, insufficient RAM, or malware running in the background.

What to do: Have a technician run a full hardware diagnostic. A failing hard drive needs urgent attention before it takes your data with it.

2. It's Running Hot or the Fan Is Constantly Loud

If your laptop is burning hot or the fan sounds like a jet engine even when browsing the web, the cooling system is struggling. Thermal paste may need replacing, vents are clogged, or a fan is failing.

Why it matters: Excessive heat causes permanent damage to your processor, GPU, and motherboard. It's a cheap fix now and an expensive one later.

3. Random Blue Screens or Crashes

Occasional blue screens can be software conflicts. But if it's happening regularly, that's a hardware red flag — most commonly failing RAM, an unstable GPU, or a dying hard drive. The error code often tells a technician exactly what's wrong.

4. Popups, Redirects, or Strange Programs

If your browser is redirecting to strange sites or you notice programs you don't recognize, your computer almost certainly has malware — ranging from annoying adware to dangerous ransomware.

Don't delay: Some malware silently harvests your passwords and banking details. Professional removal includes a deep scan, full cleanup, and protection setup.

5. Screen Is Flickering, Has Lines, or Dead Spots

Screen issues usually mean the display hardware is failing — either the screen, the cable, or the graphics chip. Don't wait for it to fail completely. Screen replacements are straightforward and far cheaper done early.

The Bottom Line

Computers rarely fail without warning. If you're experiencing any of the above — especially multiple signs at once — bring it in for a free diagnostic.
